POGIL Activity Sprint Review - Sept 24 session (24 Sep 2026)

The POGIL Project is hosting several POGIL Activity Sprint Reviews this fall to help move a variety of POGIL activities in diverse content areas closer to publication—and we’d love your help.

Sprint Reviews held last spring were extremely successful at providing both valuable input to The Project and helpful activity writing insights to the participants. Opportunities for this fall include college-level activities in statistics, introductory psychology, neurobiology, and biology, along with high school activities for chemistry and AP Environmental Science. (Please note that not every content area will be represented on each date.

We invite POGIL instructors of all teaching levels and POGIL experience levels to join as many sessions as they choose—to do something simple but powerful: be a student.

You’ll work through a small set of activities that currently have little or no classroom feedback. These activities were developed by experienced authoring teams and are well on their way—but they need fresh eyes and authentic “student-experience” feedback to reach our high-quality designation.

You do not need to teach these subjects to participate. You’ll collaborate in teams to simulate the student experience and provide electronic feedback on clarity, flow, pacing, and overall usefulness. The activities are meant for students studying this content for the first time and will be accessible to you as a college-educated person.

As a thank you, participant names will be entered into a raffle. For each session you participate, your name will be entered once. At the end of the semester, a drawing will be held and three winners will receive POGIL swag.

Fundamentals of POGIL Workshop in Lancaster (private) (28 Sep 2026)

FUNDAMENTALS of POGIL is an introductory workshop designed for those with limited or no previous exposure to POGIL. Participants will engage in POGIL activities, experience POGIL classroom management, and discuss the path to implementation.

During this session, participants will:

Identify the essential elements of POGIL.
Complete POGIL activities & observe classroom facilitation strategies.
Incorporate the development of key process (21st-century) skills into POGIL lessons.
Explore the Learning Cycle and the structure of POGIL activities.
Earn Act 48 credits in collaboration with the IU13.

Is POGIL right for you?

Middle School teachers: The POGIL Project offers several middle school science collections that are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

High School teachers: POGIL collections are available for biology and chemistry at two levels (general and AP), along with two volumes of conceptual physics aligned with NGSS.

Personal Financial Literacy Teachers: Activities are currently being developed for the new PFL state standards. Help in their development by being a classroom tester this year.

Humanities teachers: POGIL is not just for STEM fields! You too can help students develop their problem solving, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork by using POGIL techniques and activities in your classroom.

2026-27 POGIL eSeries: Rocking Roles All Semester Long (14 Oct 2026)

The model POGIL classroom relies on roles to help students work effectively as teams. This session will highlight practical ways to introduce roles and keep students engaged with them throughout the semester.

Join our facilitators Natalie Hales (Weber State University) and Kristi Deaver (Ankeny Centennial HS) as they present an intro activity that may be used in any classroom. They will also share tips and strategies to help students “rock the roles” all semester long—and invite you to contribute your own ideas and experiences to the discussion.

Registration for this event is limited to 36 people. Registrants will be sent a Zoom meeting link 2 days prior to the webinar. Please note that the session begins at 7 PM Eastern (6 PM Central/5 PM Mountain/4 PM Pacific). The session is scheduled for 75 minutes.

November 7, 2026 Fundamentals of POGIL Virtual Workshop (7 Nov 2026)

This is an introductory workshop designed for those with limited or no previous exposure to POGIL pedagogy. This is a very learner-centered, active-learning workshop. There will be a small homework assignment given to help participants reflect on their learning and prepare for either the second half of the day or the second day, depending on whether you attend the 1-day or 2-half day workshop.

Participants will engage with teammates and workshop facilitators to:

Identify the essential elements of POGIL.
Complete POGIL activities & observe classroom facilitation strategies.
Incorporate the development of key process skills (21st century) into POGIL lessons.
Explore the Learning Cycle and the structure of POGIL activities.

Technical Specifications

For this workshop, you will need to connect to Zoom via a computer with video and microphone/sound capabilities. Using a smartphone or iPad is not recommended.

If several people from your institution are attending this workshop, you must each have your own device as you may be assigned into different breakout rooms and also need to be able to answer polls individually, etc. You must be located in your own room or use earbuds so there will be no feedback between devices.

2026-27 POGIL eSeries: Using the Inclusion and Belonging Framework (18 Nov 2026)

Facilitators Stephanie Erickson (Augsburg University), Caroline Lehman (Head Royce School, retired), and Neal MacDougall (Cal Poly-San Louis Obispo, Emeritus) will introduce you to the Inclusion and Belonging Framework developed specifically for POGIL Practitioners.

In this session you will learn about the Inclusion and Belonging Framework, a collection of resources that have been curated and vetted to help practitioners improve their practices with an eye toward inclusion and belonging. You will:

be introduced to the Framework
work through one resource found on the Framework; and
identify at least one action you can apply to your practice that is centered on Inclusion and Belonging.

You will come away from the session with a personal action plan for using at least one of the resources found on the Inclusion and Belonging Framework in your practice.

What if small changes to how you facilitate POGIL activities could lead to big changes that make learning more accessible for every student? In this interactive workshop, participants will explore practical ways to use team roles, team formation, and activity modifications to create more inclusive learning experiences.

Kat Cooper (North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics) and Mare Sullivan (Retired, grades 7-college) will lead participants in discussions of real-world classroom scenarios to identify strategies you can put into practice right away to remove barriers and increase success for students.

In this interactive virtual session facilitated by Eileen Kowalski (United State Military Academy) and Marcy Dubroff (The POGIL Project), participants will explore leadership through four process skills: facilitation, communication, collaboration, and reflective judgment. Working through a team challenge, participants will examine the behaviors that help groups think, communicate, make decisions, and move forward—and consider how leadership can emerge from anyone in the room.

Participants will:

Identify process skills that contribute to effective leadership and teamwork.
Recognize leadership as a set of observable, practicable behaviors—not simply a formal role or title.
Reflect on their own leadership strengths and identify a process skill they would like to develop more intentionally.

Whether you’re developing a new initiative, evaluating an existing program, or simply trying to communicate how the pieces fit together, this session will give you a useful framework for turning ideas into a clear plan for action.After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

Describe the key elements, benefits, and limitations of a logic model.
Critique and assess a logic model.
Create a logic model for a specific project or organization.
