One principle that defines POGIL as a teaching strategy is the explicit emphasis on the development of process skills as a component of the student learning experience. These skills are often called soft skills, workplace skills, or professional skills, and employers often cite them as critical for an effective workforce. The ability to engage in these processes is crucial for students to succeed in active learning environments.
In this third of three web-based sessions focusing on Process Skills, facilitators Marty Perry of St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Teresa Bixby (Lewis University) will discuss "Valuing Process Skills in the Classroom." Drs. Perry and Bixby will discuss and brainstorm strategies for valuing process skills in the classroom, including how to assign grades to the practice, reflection upon, and improvement of process skills in students/teams.
