The POGIL Project is hosting several virtual events this spring designed to help move new and heavily revised high school POGIL activities closer to publication—and we’d love your help.

We’re calling them POGIL Activity Sprint Reviews. You are registering for this session:

    • Saturday, April 11 from 12-3 PM Eastern Time (11 AM-2 PM Central/10 AM-1 PM Mountain/9 AM-12 PM Pacific)
Other sessions will be held on:
    • Tuesday, March 31 from 7-8:30 PM Eastern Time (6-7:30 PM Central/5-6:30 PM Mountain/4-5:30 PM Pacific) - Register Here
    • Wednesday, April 22 from 7-8:30 PM Eastern Time (6-7:30 PM Central/5-6:30 PM Mountain/4-5:30 PM Pacific) - Register Here

We invite POGIL instructors of all teaching levels and POGIL experience levels to join one, two, or all three sessions to do something simple but powerful: be a student.

You’ll work through a small set of activities that currently have little or no classroom feedback. These activities were developed by experienced authoring teams and are well on their way—but they need fresh eyes and authentic “student-experience” feedback to reach our high-quality designation.

Activities span high school biology and chemistry, AP Environmental Science, and general science skills, but you do not need to teach these subjects to participate. Instead, you’ll collaborate in teams to simulate the student experience and provide electronic feedback on clarity, flow, pacing, and overall usefulness.

As a thank you, participants of this session will receive a $40 credit on their POGIL account which can be put toward any POGIL event registration.

We look forward to you joining us for this focused, collegial, and genuinely helpful experience—another way our community supports one another and strengthens POGIL materials together.

Note: Registration closes on Wednesday, April 8. Zoom links and materials will be sent on Friday, April 10.

        What are POGIL Pop-Ins?

POGIL Pop-Ins are conversations for early practitioners who are starting to implement the POGIL approach in their classrooms.

        Who are POGIL Pop-Ins for?

If you’re brand new to POGIL and interested in getting started, welcome! If you’re experienced and want to share and listen, welcome! If you’re somewhere in between, welcome!

        When are the POGIL Pop-Ins?

Four Pop-Ins have been scheduled for Spring 2026. The sessions are open to anyone.  Each topic will have its own registration. You do not need to attend the whole series - you may choose which topics interest you. Each session will be offered at two different times to accommodate different time zones and schedules.

        • Monday, February 2, 12 PM OR 3 PM Eastern: Countering Deficit Narratives Through POGIL's Constructivist Learning Cycle
        • Tuesday, February 24 at 3 PM Eastern or 7 PM Eastern: POGIL Roles as Mechanisms for Belonging, Agency, and Academic Identity
        • Monday, March 23 at 3 PM or 7 PM Eastern: Designing POGIL Activities Using Community-Relevant and Culturally Situated Contexts
        • Tuesday, April 28 at 12 PM Eastern or 3 PM Eastern: Transparency, Metacognition, and the Hidden Curriculum in POGIL

        How are POGIL Pop-Ins structured?

For each hour-long Pop-In, experienced practitioners will be in attendance to lead the discussion. We will initially focus on the topic for the month, however, if other questions about running the classroom are brought up, we will take time to talk about those topics too.

Regaining Bandwidth for Students and Educators

We will learn about several interventions designed to help students recover bandwidth, beginning with a strengths perspective about what skills and abilities they are bringing to the table – “funds of knowledge.” The interventions include community-building, values affirmation, connecting the known to the unknown, growth mindset, and high-hope syllabi.

        • Participants will:

        • Think about the ways in which we can increase certainty for students (or at least not add to uncertainty).

        • Understand that students (and educators) have “funds of knowledge” and that beginning with those strengths will help them recover bandwidth and increase the likelihood of academic success.

        • Be introduced to several evidence-based interventions that show promise in helping students regain bandwidth.

        • Reflect on the potential of the interventions for use in the classroom and in other settings with students and educators.

        REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 5

Are you ready to take your classroom to the next level? The POGIL Project's 3-day summer workshop provides instructors at all levels with a significant opportunity to obtain professional development in teaching and active learning. The POGIL approach is an innovative method that has equipped thousands of educators with the tools to provide high-quality, active learning experiences for their students. Participants in this workshop will be immersed in the concepts that make POGIL unique, and ultimately bring back skills to their institutions that have been proven to help students work more productively, increase their mastery and retention of key concepts, and improve their academic and interpersonal process skills.

On the first day of the workshop, those who are new to POGIL will attend a Fundamentals of POGIL session while those participants who have previously attended a POGIL workshop will attend two general sessions of universal application (such as POGIL Refresher, Fostering Inclusivity, Team Formation, etc). The end of the day and start of the second day will expose participants to Activity Structure and Modeling a POGIL Classroom, with an option to be introduced to POGIL Labs. For the remainder of the workshop, participants will follow a series of sessions focused on their chosen interest area - Activity Writing, Classroom Facilitation, or POGIL Labs. Check our our TRACK DESCRIPTIONS to consider which track is right for you.

All workshop attendees will also participate in informative plenary sessions. Click here for a description of session offerings and a sample agenda: Session Description & Sample Agenda

While the workshop focus is on STEM disciplines, POGIL methodology is widely applicable and attendees from all disciplines are encouraged to attend.

        WORKSHOP COST

Workshop fee, which includes registration, materials, lunches and dinners, is $650. Early birds who register by March 31 pay only $600. On campus housing (optional) for 3 nights is available for an additional $250 and includes accompanying breakfasts.

EARLY BIRD DEADLINE: March 31, 2026

Make the most out of facilitating POGIL activities without having to leave home! We know that designing a classroom environment that is student-centered, collaborative, and responsive requires a different set of teaching strategies. This virtual session will give you the tools and confidence you need to run POGIL activities in your classroom, maximize content understanding, help your students grow their 21st century skills, and engage more deeply in subject matter. If you have a great idea for a POGIL activity, we can help you write it without you leaving home! In this evidence-based, learner-centered curriculum development workshop, you will learn how to structure an activity using the Learning Cycle, weave process skills into the questions, and develop clear, robust models. Our 4-day Activity Writing Virtual Workshop features interactive team activities, as well as small homework assignments (~30 minutes) after each session. Workshop sessions will run from 1:00-4:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday-Thursday. On Friday, an optional Collaborative Feedback Training will be offered to allow participants to submit their own POGIL activities to the POGIL Activity Clearinghouse, review others’ activities, and classroom test draft activities.
